Hon’ble Mr. Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha is one of India’s foremost constitutional jurists and a distinguished Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Widely respected for his profound scholarship, exceptional advocacy, and commitment to constitutional values, he was elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court on 31 August 2021, a distinction reserved for only a select few advocates of extraordinary eminence.
His Lordship graduated from Nizam College, Hyderabad, with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, and Public Administration, before obtaining his law degree from the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, in 1988. He enrolled as an Advocate the same year and began his legal practice before the High Court, subordinate courts, and tribunals in Hyderabad before shifting his practice to the Supreme Court of India.
During an illustrious career at the Bar spanning over three decades, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Narasimha appeared in numerous landmark constitutional and public law matters before Constitution Benches of the Supreme Court. In recognition of his exceptional legal acumen, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India in 2008. His areas of expertise include constitutional law, administrative law, environmental law, competition law, telecommunications, electricity regulation, arbitration, and regulatory jurisprudence. He has also served as amicus curiae in several significant matters concerning judicial appointments, tribal rights, forest conservation, and institutional reforms.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Narasimha has also served as the Additional Solicitor General of India from 2014 until his elevation to the Bench. In this capacity, he represented the Union of India in several constitutional cases of national importance, including proceedings before Constitution Benches. He also represented India before prestigious international forums such as the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), Hamburg, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), The Hague. His contributions have extended to arbitration reforms, mediation, corporate governance, legal services, and tribunal restructuring, reflecting his enduring commitment to strengthening India’s legal institutions. At the Supreme Court of India, His Lordship is heading the Artificial Intelligence Committee and a Committee to revamp the Indian Law Institute.
Beyond the courtroom, His Lordship has maintained a deep engagement with legal education and institutional governance. He has served on the governing and executive bodies of several National Law Universities and premier educational institutions across the country. His association with legal academia reflects his strong belief in nurturing future generations of legal professionals through academic excellence, research, and institutional leadership.
Justice Narasimha has shared a longstanding association with Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, having served as a Member of the Executive Council, where he has contributed to the University’s governance, strategic direction, and academic development. His continued engagement with HNLU has been marked by his encouragement of excellence in legal education, research, and institutional growth.
