CRANDALL MELVIN PROFESSOR OF LAW SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY

Dr. Shubha Ghosh is the Crandall Melvin Professor of Law with an impressive academic and professional background. He earned his J.D. from Stanford University, graduating with distinction, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. His extensive research and expertise primarily revolve around intellectual property, technology, and their role in economic and social development.

Dr. Ghosh has made substantial contributions to various areas, including pharmaceuticals, design, copyright protection of standards, competition policy, antitrust law, and technology transfer. He explores how intellectual property law and policy shape these diverse fields. As the Director and Founder of SIPLI, he collaborates closely with the College of Law’s Innovation Law Center, where he oversees the IP and Technology Commercialization Curricular Program. This program equips law students and students across the University with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in intellectual property management, licensing, patents, copyright, and commercialization.

Furthermore, Dr. Ghosh is actively involved with the New York State Science and Technology Law Center (NYSSTLC), which focuses on addressing intellectual property and commercialization challenges affecting entrepreneurs, start-ups, universities, and research centers in New York State and beyond.

His commitment to global legal education is exemplified by his efforts to establish a Memorandum of Understanding with OP Jindal Global Law School in India, and he frequently visits universities in India, China, and Australia. Dr. Ghosh’s extensive professional affiliations include memberships in the California Bar, Federal Circuit Bar, and US Supreme Court bars. He was elected to the American Law Institute in 2012 and is currently a member of the advisory board on the Restatement of Copyright. His academic contributions have been recognized through prestigious fellowships, including the IIP Research Fellowship in Tokyo, a Fulbright Fellowship to India, and a National Endowment of the Humanities research grant. Dr. Shubha Ghosh’s impressive legal career and dedication to intellectual property and technology law make him a prominent figure in the field.
