HON’BLE MR. JUSTICE ARUP KUMAR GOSWAMI

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arup Kumar Goswami, is a distinguished jurist in the Indian judicial landscape. Born on March 11, 1961, in Jorhat, Assam, he embarked on his educational journey, graduating with Honors in Economics from Cotton College under Gauhati University in 1981. He obtained an LL.B. Degree from the Government Law College, Guwahati, in 1985 and in the subsequent year, he enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Justice Goswami’s legal practice primarily centered around Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, and Service matters. His dedication and expertise in the field earned him the distinction of being designated as a Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court on December 21, 2004.

In the realm of legal services, he served as the Executive Chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority from April 1, 2011, to August 12, 2013, and later held similar positions in the Assam State Legal Services Authority from June 6, 2018, to October 14, 2019, and the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority from March 8, 2016, to October 14, 2019.

Justice Goswami’s legal acumen and leadership abilities were further recognized when he served as the Chief Justice (Acting) of the Gauhati High Court in multiple terms, from September 6, 2018, to October 29, 2018, and again from May 24, 2019, to October 6, 2019. 

He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim on October 15, 2019, and subsequently as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on January 6, 2021. He subsequently assumed the role of Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh on October 12, 2021. Justice Arup Kumar Goswami’s unwavering commitment to justice and the law continues to shape the legal landscape of India.
