Prof. (Dr.) N. L. Mitra is a distinguished legal luminary currently serving as a Partner at Fox Mandal in Bengaluru. With a prolific academic and professional career, he has made significant contributions to the legal field. He has authored more than 11 books and published over 200 research papers, earning him recognition as an eminent legal scholar.

Prof. Mitra’s influence extends beyond academia. He has chaired crucial financial committees in the country and played advisory roles in judicial reforms. His expertise encompasses conveyancing, market operations, and investment law and practice. He has served as a visiting professor at various National Law Schools and as an Advisor to IIT Kharagpur.

Prof. Mitra’s administrative leadership includes his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, from 1997 to 2000. He was also the Chancellor of KIIT University and the Founder Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious National Law University, Jodhpur.

His association with prominent institutions like RBI, SEBI, and GIC reflects his comprehensive understanding of financial sectors. Prof. Mitra’s contributions span legislative drafting in various areas, including banking regulations, bankruptcy laws, financial frauds, investor protection, and fiscal responsibility.

He has been actively involved in research projects in collaboration with institutions like Harvard University, Asia Development Bank, UNDP, and the World Bank. His research covers diverse contemporary issues, from natural disasters like the Gujarat Earthquake to farmer suicides and pesticide distribution systems. Additionally, Prof. Mitra pioneered environmental law reform initiatives and introduced distance learning in law in India, offering a Master’s Degree in Business Laws through Global Education.
